“Amchigele Khaan Javan” is a curated collection of GSB recipes, highlighting monsoon flavours and seasonal traditions. Inspired by HH Shrimad Samyamindra Teertha Swamiji’s vision to preserve this culinary heritage, the book is a collaborative effort by the GSB community. We deeply thank Smt. Vedika Vaibhav Shenoy for her stunning illustrations, along with Smt. Niveditha Prabhu and Smt. Ujwal Mallya for their contributions. Special gratitude goes to Sri Ravish B. Kamath and Smt. Rekha Kamath of Big Bags International Pvt. Ltd., Mangalore, for publishing this treasure.

Each community is recognized for its unique cultural contributions, and the GSB (Gowd Saraswat Brahmin) community is globally renowned for its flavourful cuisine that not only pleases the palate but also provides numerous health benefits. GSB cuisine is a perfect blend of simplicity, balance, and rich flavours, deeply rooted in Ayurvedic principles. These recipes emphasize the use of traditional ingredients and seasonal produce, which enhances both taste and overall well-being. Staples like curry leaves, asafoetida, and other natural ingredients not only elevate the flavour but also offer substantial health advantages.

Among the most cherished dishes is Dalithoy, a comforting lentil dish that holds a special place in the heart of every GSB household. Its gentle, nourishing essence has made it a signature dish that evokes warmth and nostalgia for anyone connected to the GSB community. Similarly, Pathrado, another beloved dish, is much more than a meal—it is a celebration of tradition, family, and community. Preparing and enjoying Pathrado is an emotional experience that connects generations, symbolizing the deep cultural heritage of the GSB people.

This book, “Amchigele Khaan Javan,” is a curated collection of GSB recipes, especially highlighting the monsoon flavours and dishes traditionally prepared during the rainy season. This book is more than a recipe guide—it is a culinary treasure trove designed to preserve the essence of GSB cooking for future generations.

HH Shrimad Samyamindra Teertha Swamiji had graciously expressed their desire to document our cherished recipes, ensuring that future generations can access and preserve this invaluable culinary heritage. In keeping with Swamiji’s vision, this book has been thoughtfully compiled.
